Why does the faucet from the villagers' house produce acid

——Survey of drinking water pollution in some villages in Guangzong County, Hebei

"At present, all five acid-related enterprises in Guangzong County Economic Development Zone have ceased production." On the afternoon of April 26, Lu Guoyang, director of Guangzong Branch of the Xingtai City Eco-Environment Bureau of Hebei, told reporters from China Youth Daily and China Youth Network that Guangzong County Investigate the enterprises with hidden safety hazards in the county.

On the morning of April 24, the water quality of some villages in Guangzong County was abnormal. The water quality was yellow, foamy, and smelly. Many villagers burned their skin because they used contaminated tap water. The Guangzong County Government released news that this was due to the fact that Guangzong Zhitong Electric Bicycle Factory used tap water to fill the pickling tank on the evening of April 23. The on-site operation technician did not close the water injection pipe in accordance with the operating specifications and supplied water at 23:00. After the station stopped water, an inverted siphon effect occurred, causing acid to flow back into the water supply pipeline.

A few days ago, a reporter from the China Youth Daily and China Youth Daily visited the site and found that the villages with contaminated drinking water were concentrated in the economic development zone of Guangzong County. In the economic development zone of Guangzong County, there is a situation where industrial enterprises and residents share a water supply pipeline, and the acid-related enterprises in the development zone often have non-standard acid management.

Many villagers were burned

"After getting up in the morning, I turned on the tap, and the water that came out was yellow and produced a lot of foam, accompanied by a pungent smell." On the afternoon of April 24, Wang Hao, a villager in Lijiazhuang Village, Guangzong County (Pseudonym) Speaking of sudden anomalies in drinking water, I still feel palpitations, "Fortunately, I didn't use this water to wash my teeth."

He told the reporters of China Youth Daily and China Youth Daily that he noticed his family members when he discovered that the tap water was abnormal. Later, Wang Hao noticed that village cadres reminded everyone in WeChat not to use tap water. "This has never happened in the water in the village before," he said.

Villager Zhang Hong (a pseudonym) of Wulizhuang Village in the neighboring village said that after he discovered that the tap water was abnormal, he took a pot of water with a stainless steel pot and placed it for a period of time and found black spots on the bottom of the pot. "The stainless steel basin is corroded. I can't wipe these black spots with a steel ball."

Zhang Hong said that some people in the village were burned by tap water. On the morning of April 25, the reporter found an old man who was burnt. His face was red and his eyes were swollen. "Yesterday morning, I accidentally washed my face with tap water." He said that after washing, he felt his face panic and quickly took off a thin layer of skin.

Another woman who was burned said that when she took a shower in the morning, she suddenly felt like a knife-like pain. After turning off the shower head, she began to have red spots on her body and her skin tingled. After arriving at the hospital, the doctor diagnosed skin burns.

According to a survey conducted by a reporter from the China Youth Daily and China Youth Daily, four people in Wulizhuang Village were burned by tap water, and a child in a neighboring village was burnt while washing his hair.

No distinction between industrial and domestic water pipelines

Zhang Hong told reporters that villagers in many nearby villages are sharing water from a water station, which is in the next village of Hongjiazhuang.

On the morning of April 24th, the relevant department of Guangzong County discovered an abnormal situation in the tap water quality of some villages, and launched an emergency plan for safe drinking water, informing the villagers to stop using tap water immediately, and arranging tank trucks to deliver water to ensure the safety of drinking water. At the same time, Guangzong County established a joint investigation team composed of the Agricultural and Rural Bureau, the Environmental Protection Bureau, and the Public Security Bureau to investigate the incident.

On the afternoon of April 25, Guangzong County announced that the village involved was within the water supply range of the 8th water supply station in the rural village of Guangzong County. The water supply station is divided into the north and south roads. After preliminary testing, the water quality of the water supply station and the north road is normal. The water supply network of the south road is mixed with unknown acids. It mainly involves the three villages of Wulizhuang, Zhaojiawu and Lijiazhuang.

The reporter learned that this water supply station supplies water to 26 nearby villages, including 13 on South Road and 13 on North Road. The water supply station also supplies water to surrounding industrial enterprises.

On the morning of April 25, the reporter came to this water supply station and followed the water supply pipeline of the South Road. He found that in addition to the 3 villages announced by Guangzong County, there were at least 4 villages including Xiquanzhai Village, Dongquanzhai Village, and Hongjiazhuang Village. The tap water in this village has been polluted to varying degrees.

After the cause of the abnormal drinking water incident was identified, villagers generally reported that it is unreasonable for industrial enterprises and villagers to share a pipe for domestic water, "This is too dangerous!"

Non-standard management of acid-related enterprises

On the morning of April 26, a reporter from China Youth Daily and China Youth Daily came to the involved Zhitong Electric Bicycle Factory. At present, this enterprise has been sealed up and the three suspects have been legally controlled. The legal representative of the enterprise surrendered to the public security organ at 18:00 on the 25th. The staff did not allow the reporter to enter the factory.

Through Tianyan inspection, the reporter noticed that this company's business scope is electric bicycles, electric tricycles, children's electric vehicles, bicycle parts processing and assembly, metal surface treatment, etc. Tianyan check shows that since 2019, the factory has been involved in three legal proceedings. In addition, the company was included in the list of abnormal operations in 2017 because it failed to submit its annual report according to regulations.

The reporter noted that there is a bicycle industrial park in Guangzong Economic Development Zone. It is understood that there are a number of bicycles and related supporting enterprises here, which is the largest production base of baby carriages and bicycle parts in northern China.

A villager who worked in a bicycle factory told reporters that because some bicycle parts are made of iron, they are particularly prone to rust. Bicycle factories generally put rusty bicycle parts into pickling tanks, and they will shine as soon as possible. New.

He told reporters that the company he works in is not very standardized in acid management. "I often see sour buckets open."

Lv Guoyang said that in the process of arranging the discharge, they also found that some acid-related enterprises had irregular storage and inadequate storage.

At present, the 26 villages responsible for water supply at the 8th water supply station have not yet resumed water supply, and the government organizations have uniformly used tank trucks to deliver water to the villagers. The government of Guangzong County has also arranged to formulate a replacement plan for the contaminated pipeline and is conducting survey and design.

"We have to make an analogy to avoid similar incidents happening again." Lu Guoyang said.
