Holiday check books must be distributed to employees in the PACA region working in contact with the public during confinement. - M. Allili / Sipa

  • Cashiers, delivery people or commercial employees in the PACA region will be able to claim 500 holiday vouchers.
  • It is a question of rewarding them for their work but also of relaunching tourism in the sector.
  • These checks will only be valid in establishments in the region.

The local authorities of Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur announced this Sunday the distribution, subject to resources, of a holiday checkbook for people who worked in contact with the public during confinement, in order to help tourism in this region hard hit economically.

With a value of 500 euros, the holiday checkbook will be allocated to private sector employees domiciled in the region and benefiting from a family allowance not exceeding 700 euros. It is aimed at people who worked in direct contact with the public during the confinement period, the region said in a press release.

Checks to be used only in the region

Deliverymen, cashiers, commercial employees can claim this checkbook which can be used individually or in family for accommodation, catering and leisure services between the date of reopening of establishments in the region and the end of the year, she explains.

It must be used in the region exclusively, within the network of professionals registered in the network of the National Agency for Holiday Checks, partner of the operation, specifies the regional authority.

The overall budget for the operation, which is estimated at 10 million euros (funded by the departments and the region up to 4 million euros), is intended to help boost consumption in this region which is highly dependent on tourism.

Reviving the tourism economy

Containment measures with the closure of bars and restaurants, among other things, had a severe impact on its economy. According to the president of the employers' organization Medef in this region, Yvon Grosso, the impact of the health crisis on the gross domestic product (GDP) in Paca could be "more than 10%", even if it does not exist no precise assessment yet, he said on Thursday.

A decrease that could be greater than the national average. The fall in French GDP could be "at least 8%" this year, according to the Governor of the Bank of France François Villeroy de Galhau.
