"Starting in the morning the objective is no longer to reach the top of the curve, we are achieving this, now we have to consolidate it and think about how we are going to safely go to another phase of opening the restriction measures." This is how emphatic Fernando Simón, the director of the Coordination Center for Health Alerts and Emergencies of the Ministry of Health (CCAES), has shown himself after the figures for the day have been released. In the last 24 hours, 288 people have died from coronavirus in Spain, bringing the total number of victims to 23,190, there have been 1,729 new cases (accounted for by PCR), and 3,024 patients have been discharged (98,732 in total) .

"The magnitude of the decline today is important," said Simón, although he immediately called for caution due to the delay in accounting for cases that usually occurs at the weekend.

"These trends have been observed for several weeks and must continue to be observed in the coming days. For now, no negative effect is being observed. We must continue with great care. Taking a step back would be very serious for the health system and the morale of the population, "said Simon.

During his appearance, Simón pointed out that this Sunday he was handed over to the Minister of Health, Salvador Illa, and to the Prime Minister. Pedro Sánchez, a document with recommendations to start the transition process, in which we collect the opinion of many consulted experts.

In this document, he explained, different parameters are valued. For example, how can you guarantee that the system could respond to a new outbreak or if you have the appropriate mechanisms to monitor the evolution of the epidemic.

"We hope that this document that we have prepared will be useful for de-escalation in the coming days," said Simon.

In this sense, he added: "We will have to be able to identify the geographical areas to apply these restriction reliefs. Yesterday the president already announced some relief measures for the next few days. There will be other actions that may be applied only in some areas by the specific situation ", Simon advanced.
