Saudi Arabia relaxed, on Sunday, April 26, the containment measures implemented on its soil to curb the spread of Covid-19. Only Mecca and its surroundings are still subject to a 24 hour curfew, reports the Saudi press agency SPA.

Outside the Holy City, curfews will be relaxed during the day from Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., until May 13, specifies a royal decree cited by SPA, while the month of Muslim fasting Ramadan started on Friday.

Over 16,000 cases, including 136 fatal cases

Kingdom authorities have also authorized the reopening of certain commercial and economic activities from Wednesday until May 13.

This measure concerns wholesalers, retail stores and shopping centers. Gatherings of more than five people, meanwhile, are prohibited.

The Wahhabi kingdom has registered 16,299 cases of coronavirus contamination, including 136 fatal cases.
