A British parliamentarian announced, on the first day of Ramadan, that he will fast the first week of the blessed month of Ramadan to understand what this month means for Muslims.

Paul Priestow, a member of the British Parliament for the Conservative Party in the city of Peterborough, in the east of England, posted a video on his Twitter account in which he said he had decided to fast the first week of Ramadan to share with Muslims the experience of fasting, and to understand what Ramadan means to them.
"Ramadan is a time for spiritual contemplation, self-improvement and a lot of worship," Priesto said.

He added: “I also decided to fast during the first week of Ramadan. Although I am not a Muslim, I feel it is important that I share this experience with about 20,000 Muslims living in my home city of Peterborough. ” He said he would like to understand what Muslims do and what Ramadan means to them.

The British parliamentarian told the local newspaper Peterborough Telegraph that he hoped to know more about the Islamic faith and about himself as well.

He said that the lessons of self-discipline, sacrifice and sympathy for those in need are available to all, and that generosity is not limited to a specific faith.
