A return to voluntary school and mandatory masks in transport… While the President of the Republic met with mayors on Thursday, the Elysée Palace unveiled some tracks of the strategy for exiting confinement put in place at from May 11.
On the strategy of leaving containment, the Head of State decided: the deconfinement will not be "regionalized" but it will adapt to "the realities of each territory", announced on Thursday the Elysee. The deconfinement must be prepared with the mayors, insisted the head of state, according to remarks reported by the Elysée.
Priority for children in difficulty and the youngest
The start of the school year on May 11 will be “progressive, concerted with local elected officials and adapted to local realities,” added the Elysée, in particular depending on the size of the municipalities. Priority will undoubtedly be given to "the youngest, those who are not independent", as well as to the children "the most in difficulty", but in any case on the basis of the parents' volunteering, "without obligation to return at school ”, specifies the Elysée.
In public transport, "it will probably be necessary to impose the wearing of masks," said the Elysee Palace, which spoke of "organizational and health specifications for the recovery". On the subject of masks, "there will always be a prioritization of FFP2 and surgical masks for caregivers" and the executive remains "in the register of the recommendation at this stage" for its generalization to the general public "because we must above all respect barrier gestures ”.
Emmanuel Macron thus encouraged the mayors to massively buy masks for the general public, "in a logic of recommendation, no obligation". Regarding the timetable, the Head of State "undertook that the framework will be presented at the beginning of next week" by the "Monsieur déconfinement" of the government, Jean Castex, to local elected representatives, in particular for a period of consultation and interaction with elected officials. The presentation of a detailed plan should take place in early May.
