Coronavirus: the African club cup finals postponed

The Confederation Cup final scheduled for May 24 in Rabat and the Champions League final scheduled for May 29 in Douala have been postponed due to the new coronavirus pandemic.

Will we be seeing African football matches before this summer? The new coronavirus pandemic has once again put an end to meetings scheduled for the coming weeks. After the semi-finals, already postponed, it is indeed the finals of African club cups that have been postponed to dates yet to be defined.

The African Football Confederation (CAF) "  announced this Saturday, April 18, 2020, its decision to also suspend the finals of the CAF Total Confederation Cup and the CAF Total Champions League 2019/2020 until further notice notice,  "said a press release.

Postponements rather than in camera

As a reminder, the final of the Confederation Cup was scheduled for May 24 in Rabat, and that of the Champions League was supposed to take place on May 29 in Douala. In an interview with rfi.fr, the Secretary General of CAF, Abdelmounaïm Bah, stressed that matches behind closed doors were not an option. “  The preferred option, if it proves necessary, will be to postpone these meetings until the conditions are met so that they can take place in complete safety.  "

Obviously the conditions are no longer met. "  CAF wishes to specify that it is monitoring the situation closely and is working in close collaboration with the competent authorities, in particular the World Health Organization (WHO) regarding the impact of the virus on the continent and the development of competitions  ", ensures the body based in Cairo.
