Buses crowded in the northern districts, in the midst of a coronavirus epidemic? Two Marseille parliamentarians challenge the LR president of the metropolis, Martine Vassal, on the health risks that users of public transport currently run in these disadvantaged areas of the second city of France.

It should be remembered that the northern districts of Marseille are served almost exclusively by buses, which, according to these parliamentarians, are used in large numbers, for lack of a frequency adapted to the needs of these Marseillais.

A “generally normal” situation according to the metropolis

"I was seized by many users of our public transport in Marseille, especially in the northern and central districts, forced to take crowded public transport, exposing them to a significant risk of contamination related to Covid-19" , affirms the senator from the northern districts and candidate for municipal elections Samia Ghali in a letter sent this Thursday to Martine Vassal. A similar alert had been launched at the beginning of April by LREM deputy from the northern districts and municipal candidate Saïd Ahamada, who had notably spoken with the prefect on this subject.

In her press release, the senator calls for "an increase in the frequency of buses on certain routes in order to guarantee respect for social distances. Contacted, Roland Blum, deputy to the city in charge of transport, believes that the situation on the Marseille transport network is "generally normal".

“It is especially on the lines of the northern districts where there is the most tension, recognizes Roland Blum. We have already started to put in additional vehicles, but you should also know that today, we have difficulty getting drivers, due to absenteeism. Some are on sick leave, others in childcare… ”
