  • Necessary to transport basic necessities, truckers were among the professions active during the Covid-19 pandemic.
  • To allow them to eat hot, the star chef Laurent Poulet and his team of restaurateurs cook dishes distributed in the Bréguières area, in Mougins, near Cannes.
  • Nearly 300 solidarity meals are served to truckers, but also to carers, firefighters and law enforcement.

The truckers swallow the kilometers ... and now good food. Every Tuesday evening, the Michelin-starred chef Laurent Poulet distributes meals to the drivers present in the Bréguières Sud area, near Cannes, along the A8. “I have a friend in Paris who followed the solidarity movement launched by the head of the Elysée. I told myself that something had to be done in the region for those who are at the front, in the front or second line, ”explains the man who was at the pianos of the Manoir de l'Étang in Mougins.

Improvised menus

This Tuesday, April 14, the menu was appetizing: as a starter, marinated fillet of sea bream marinated with Mougins rosemary, fennel with turmeric and cylinder of leek, mustard cream with fresh herbs; as a main dish, roast-braised poultry supreme with crab aroma, reduced cooking juices and yellow lemon potatoes; for dessert, soft banana-chocolate with a melting heart, caramel banana and golden apple coulis. “I am sometimes asked the question: do you serve these dishes to your customers? The answer is no. We take what the suppliers give us for free and we improvise day by day, ”explains the culinary creator.

Tears in my eyes

While all highway restaurants are closed and only the shops remain open, this initiative is warmly welcomed by drivers. " It's perfect. We're going to eat something decent tonight. Compared to what we eat during the week, it should be delicious, ”says one of them.

“During the first distribution, truckers had tears in their eyes, adds Laurent Poulet. They said, “Thank you, for once we are thought of”. These are fabulous moments. "

A human adventure in which the chef invites everyone to participate. The latter has created a specific page on which he posts children's drawings and testimonies of support from adults. Beneficiaries have access to it and some extracts are printed on the back of the menus.

Over 300 meals per week

Each week, more than 300 meals are distributed to truckers, carers, firefighters and law enforcement officials from Antibes, Cannes, Grasse and Mougins. To concoct them in the kitchens of the CFA in Cannes, Laurent Poulet has assembled a team made up of other chefs, like his friend Frédéric Ramos of the Novotel Monaco, and apprentices, while making sure to "respect the best conditions sanitary ”.

To "not always ask the same", the professional is looking for new suppliers: "They can contact us by email and give us what they want. The only condition is that it is fresh products. "

Organized in collaboration with Vinci Autoroutes and relayed on 107.7 FM, the operation will continue "as long as it takes".
