World famous, the Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli gave an Easter concert, Sunday April 12, inside the Duomo of Milan, the city's cathedral, completely empty. This unique concert was thought of as "a prayer" in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic, which has been severely affecting Italy for several weeks.

The Italian singer's concert started at 7 p.m. (5 p.m. GMT) in the religious building and was streamed on YouTube.

Andrea Bocelli sang several tunes of sacred music, notably "Ave Maria" by Charles Gounod or "Santa Maria" by Pietro Mascagni, before concluding with the Christian hymn "Amazing Grace".

"Overcome this dramatic period as soon as possible"

Before the start of the concert, Andrea Bocelli had done some voice tests on the Duomo square, symbol of Milan, also entirely empty.

"Pray, in the house of God and on the day of the main Christian celebration, so that we can overcome this dramatic period as soon as possible and leave with a new consciousness to arrive at a new way of taking care of our neighbor and of the planet, "said the singer to explain his project.

Lombardy, of which Milan is the capital, is the region of Italy most affected by the coronavirus, with more than 10,600 deaths out of the almost 20,000 recorded in the country.
