Maurice Barrier died this Sunday of the coronavirus at the age of 87 years. According to his relatives contacted by the chain France 3 Bourgogne-France Comté, the actor was infected by the Covid-19 a few days ago and his condition quickly deteriorated.

Jérémy Manesse, his nephew, spoke on Twitter about his disappearance.

(...) At 87 years old and when he was facing pulmonary difficulties, he caught the coronavirus in the hospital and did not recover. Hélène would like those who knew him in the profession to be informed of his death, so do not hesitate to relay the information. (...)

"At 87 years of age and while he was having lung problems, he got the coronavirus in the hospital and did not recover," he wrote. Maurice Barrier had been hospitalized for several weeks. He had spent three weeks at the hospital in Semur-en-Auxois (Côte-d'Or), according to France 3 who contacted his wife Hélène Manesse, before leaving for a rehabilitation center in Montbard.

Famous for his supporting roles in cinema, Maurice Barrier played alongside Jean-Paul Belmondo, Jean Gabin, Alain Delon, Pierre Richard, Gérard Depardieu or Gérard Jugnot, in many films such as the famous comedy by Yves Robert Le Grand blond with a black shoe (1972) or the successes of Yves Robert Les compères (1983) and Les Fugitifs (1986) or still Scout (1985). He had also appeared on television in several television films such as the Instit or Louis La Brocante .

Also a man of the stage, Maurice Barrier had obtained in 1998, the Molière for best actor in a supporting role, for his interpretation in the play Twelve men in anger.
