Toni, candidate for The Voice. - Office 233 / ITV / TF1

  • The KOs of Amel Bent's team in "The Voice" were broadcast this Saturday on TF1.
  • Among the talents selected for the live shows is Toni, 23-year-old Francilienne whose “20 Minutes” follows the backstage adventure since the auditions.

At The Voice knockouts, broadcast this Saturday on TF1, she did not falter. Toni is one of the three artists from the Amel Bent team to have been selected for the next stage, that of the live bonuses to be held at the Palais des sports in Paris when the health situation allows it… Meanwhile, the 23-year-old Francilienne takes stock of the stage with 20 Minutes .

How did you experience this knockout ordeal?

It was weird. We are at the gates of the direct, we know that if we are eliminated at this stage, we must still give everything to give without regret. I arrived at a stage of the competition where I developed my competitive spirit. If I had not been qualified, I would have been frustrated. I really sang like it was the last time.

With the other six candidates from the Amel Bent team, you were drawing plans for the comet while trying to imagine which would be the three qualified?

We tried to imagine all this with the team, except that we have no idea what is going on in Amel Bent's head. So we preferred to abandon these little predictions (laughs). Even if Amel Bent had said that I was his crush, I was not sure of anything. She could have told me that she didn't see me at the Palais des sports.

Technically, it was Pascal Obispo and not Amel Bent who pressed the buzzer synonymous with qualification. During your blind hearing, he was not convinced by your performance. This buzzer, you take it for a validation?

So, I'm not going to lie to you, I didn't understand what was going on (she laughs). I was struck by the song. I was catching my breath and I think I did not have enough air in the brain because, when I saw Pascal Obispo buzzer, I said to myself "But, does that count? Did he ask my coach for permission? " I saw in the eyes of Amel Bent afterwards that it was good, but I expected Nikos Aliagas to arrive and say "sorry, it doesn't count". The fact that it is Pascal Obispo who buzzes, it is full of meaning. The circle is complete.

You didn't choose to sing Lizzo's “Juice” by chance…

Lizzo is an artist with whom I identify very much. Today, there are few artists who resemble me by musical style, message and commitment. Her music moves and dances, but she doesn't forget to say who she is and what she represents. I find myself very much in his texts. It's important to feel good, no matter who you are. We can think that her song speaks of the fact that it is round but no, the "juice" is the fact of being good about yourself and assuming who you are. It's something that I apply every day of my life. This song is the definition of who I am and how I wanted to use knockouts to put a final stamp and say this is what I represent…

Amel Bent said she was happy that her daughters could see an inspiring artist like you. Did it flatter you?

It was weird that she told me that because she was this artist for me. It was a consecration, a hyper-planing moment. I was not expecting it at all. It was strange, because, growing up, I only saw Amel Bent who looked like me and whom I could hang on to. When she told me that, I was in a parallel universe, I really did not understand that I was seen as a full-fledged artist. For a long time, people didn't take me too seriously and there it was…

The next step is direct, at the Palais des sports. Does production keep you informed of what is planned?

We really don't know. You have to see how the situation evolves. We wait, like everyone else.

How do you live this expectation?

On the one hand, it's frustrating because by being qualified, we waited impatiently for the direct. There, the fact of waiting for all the broadcasts, it was already super exciting and we wanted to arrive directly with the potato. So we have to postpone this moment, but I think I would have no choice but to arrive with all my frustration and what I will do will be three billion percent, it will be a giant party.
