South Korea said yesterday that it will require those who violate the rules of self-isolation to wear electronic bracelets, in order to better contain the outbreak of the Corona virus (Covid-19).

Prime Minister Chung Se Kyun said that his country would require violators of self-isolation rules to wear electronic bracelets, given that in recent weeks, the number of cases of people who violate the rules of self-prohibition has raised concern, according to South Korea's Yonhap News Agency.

"After a deep study, the government decided to put electronic bracelets in the hands of those who violate the rules of self-isolation, such as going out without notification, and not answering phone calls," Chung added during a meeting at the headquarters of the Central Committee for Disaster Action and Security in Seoul.

He continued, "We heard experts in the field of quarantine, and we gathered opinions from different societies."

In a study recently conducted, with the participation of 1,000 people, commissioned by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, 80.2% of people supported the idea of using electronic bracelets to track down those subject to self-quarantine.

However, some have indicated that such a measure could constitute a violation of human rights.
