The Osaka Prefectural Police Headquarters announced on the evening of November 11 that it was confirmed that a male police officer working at the Nishi-Sakai Police Station in Sakai City was infected with the new coronavirus. About 30 colleagues in the same department as this police officer are on standby at home and dispatched support from the Prefectural Police Headquarters to continue operations at the police station.

According to the Osaka Prefectural Police Headquarters, the infection was confirmed by a male police officer in his thirties who works for the traffic section of the Nishi-Sakai Police Station in Nishi-ku, Sakai City.

It was confirmed on September 9 that a family member living in Tokyo, where he and his parents lived together in Osaka in Osaka Prefecture, was infected earlier this month.

The Osaka Prefectural Police will disinfect the police station, and then leave about 30 people in the same traffic section as the police officer on standby at home, dispatching support from the Prefectural Police Headquarters to continue operations at the police station.

It is the first time that a police officer of the Osaka Prefectural Police has confirmed infection, and so far no one has complained of poor physical condition to anyone who has contacted another police officer or police officer for work.

Yoshiji Atsuta, director of the Police Department of the Osaka Prefectural Police Headquarters, said, "We would like to cooperate with investigations at health centers and work to prevent infection in the future."
