Miss England 2019 returned to her position as a doctor to assist UK health care workers following the outbreak of the Coronavirus.

Dr. Pasha Mukherjee from Derby took a break from the medical field to pursue charity work abroad after winning the Miss England title in 2019, and remained stuck in India when Prime Minister Narendra Modi imposed a nationwide closure.

But after an appeal to the Foreign Office, the 24-year-old doctor moved to the front line to help her colleagues at British Health Service hospitals control the spread of the virus.

The junior doctor, who previously worked at Pilgrim Hospital in Boston, Lincolnshire, returned to England on Wednesday, April 8, after the British High Commission in Kolkata was able to provide the return trip to the United Kingdom.

"There is no better time for me to be Miss England and help my country when it is needed," the doctor said on her Instagram account.

Dr. Mukherjee started her first shift as a junior doctor in August 2019, just hours after she was crowned Miss England.

Last month, she traveled to India along with her mother for a four-week humanitarian tour on behalf of Coventry Mercia Lions.

However, with the worsening of the Corona virus pandemic in early March, the Indian government imposed nationwide closures and canceled all flights, leaving Dr. Mukherjee unable to return via her booked flight on March 21.

Upon her return, Dr. Mukherjee underwent self-isolation for two weeks, so she could return to her work as a specialist in respiratory medicine.
