The mayor of the small town of Canonica Dada in the northern Italian region of Lombardy has decided to allocate separate days for women and men who want to shop, in order to limit the number of people in stores, as part of efforts to cordon the spread of the new Corona virus, while the municipality will impose a fine of up to 400 euros to violators.

According to the French Press Agency, a woman in the city near Bergamo explained to one of the women: "You can buy your needs from the bakery on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, but on other days your husband will be able to do that."

Janmaria Siria, the mayor of this city of 4,400 people, noted that the "Covid-19" epidemic had killed twenty of its residents last month, although it is not the most affected in this "red zone", of the epidemic.

He said that this "memorandum was prepared to protect public health," adding: "I have to preserve public health even if it requires criticism."

The mayor commented on this issue, noting that the small shops and the city's pharmacy are the only ones that open their doors on Sundays, so "we had to choose, and we chose the men to buy everything needed in large quantities on this day" ..

Lombardy is the epidemic center in Italy with around 9,500 deaths, nearly half of the deaths in the country.

The city of Bergamo and its region are among the hardest hit by the epidemic, and Lombardy officials have called for the maintenance of home quarantine measures imposed on Italy's 60 million people a month ago, warning of complacency in these measures, at a time when the speed of the virus seems to be slowing.
