The La Baule embankment during containment. - S. Salom-Gomis / Sipa

  • The mayor of La Baule is sorry for the lack of respect for the containment measures.
  • A situation all the more complicated as the population of his city increased due to the occupation of second homes.

The weather is exceptionally good on the Atlantic coast at the start of this Easter weekend. A fact that does not particularly delight Yves Métaireau, the mayor of La Baule (Loire-Atlantique). Elected LR admits that it is already very difficult to enforce confinement measures in his seaside town. And sorry.

"I can tell you that there are a lot of people at La Baule right now," he explains to 20 Minutes . And I always deplore too many incivilities. The barriers that we put in place are knocked down, there are people we found drunk dead on the beach. Others jog with others or walk on the waterfront when it is prohibited ... These are small things but they show that there are still people who do not respect the confinement measures. And that is worrying because the number of patients is still increasing. "

"They take the streets as a playground"

There are, however, numerous controls at La Baule. "We are extremely vigilant," adds Yves Métaireau. The municipal police are strict. It is not easy for her because people do not always have their identity documents. Those who have been fined complain or make excuses. I can understand them elsewhere. But there are also really many who take the streets for a playground, for themselves or for their children! It is complicated. "

It must be said that the population of the coastal city has suddenly increased in recent weeks. "We have a lot of people who came from outside," notes elected representative LR. You have to see: practically all the villas of second homes are open! I understand the people who came the first time. But those who arrived after the warnings, who drove at night to come discreetly ... I don't blame them for appreciating La Baule. But above all I would like them to understand that this is not a vacation here! I ask them to be extremely careful. "

"No unnecessary stocks"

Yves Métaireau also says he is "worried" about supplies, especially food. “Supermarkets are under attack when they are not expected to accommodate as many people at this time of the year. Above all, people should not make unnecessary stocks. "

As on the entire French coast, access to the beaches is strictly prohibited, as are the streets or paths along the sea.
