Last Thursday was a special day for cardiovascular surgeon Dr. Paul Saunders when he entered the Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, where hospital staff greeted him with warm applause, welcoming him back and returning to work after being infected and recovering from the emerging corona virus.

Saunders had discovered his infection with the Corona virus last March, after he had some symptoms, and his infection was of a moderate degree, which accelerated his recovery and was able to return to work.

"Thank you very much ... It was unexpected ... Thank you all for coming, and thank you for working hard ... I am happy to return," Saunders said to the hospital staff and staff who clapped him warmly in the hallway, welcoming him back to work.

"Everybody in the hospital works hard," Saunders told ABC News. "And throughout my time at home, I was anxious to return to work, especially in this exceptional circumstance."
