New evacuations of patients suffering from Covid-19 will take place on Friday from Île-de-France to New Aquitaine. According to a source close to the health authorities, several transfers by train are planned for Bordeaux, Angoulême and Poitiers. The affected patients, whose number has not been specified, will be evacuated from Austerlitz station, confirmed a second source.

Since April 1, nearly 200 patients have already been evacuated by road, rail or air to regions less affected by the coronavirus, notably Brittany, Normandy and the Pays de la Loire, in order to relieve congestion in hospitals in Ile-de-France .

Around 50 admissions per day compared to 150 at the height of the crisis

In total, more than 2,500 coronavirus patients are currently hospitalized in intensive care in Île-de-France, where the epidemic wave has continued to rise in recent days, far from the reflux hitherto hoped for, according to the Regional Health Agency (ARS). Admittedly, the number of coronavirus patients admitted to intensive care "increases three times slower than last week", with about 50 admissions per day against 150 at the height of the crisis. But "it is always increasing faster than our capabilities," said an ARS spokesperson on Wednesday.

The ARS Ile-de-France has opened in recent days nearly 200 additional beds in a week, including 85 at the Henri-Mondor hospital in Créteil (Val-de-Marne), where a new building for surgery and critical care is to welcome its first patients this Thursday.

But these openings, which brought to 2,400 the number of intensive care beds dedicated to Covid-19, were not enough to stem the tide, forcing some establishments to temporarily use “non-Covid” intensive care beds, reserved for other diseases and accidents. These new evacuations to New Aquitaine should therefore provide some relief to hospitals in Paris and its region, faced with this situation of persistent saturation.
