  • Wednesday, the town hall closed buildings and reopened certain axes, obstructed by baffles.
  • "As soon as the confinement ends, we call for a festive reoccupation of the ZAD de la Dune," reacted the opponents of the controversial marina project.

The technical services of the city are always on site to avoid any new occupation, this Thursday morning. Wednesday, the ZAD of Brétignolles-sur-mer, in Vendée, was dismantled, following the arrest by the gendarmerie of the fifteen individuals who were on the spot. "A new incident took place in the morning, after an escalation of acts of violence which we observe recently, one indicates to the town hall. We took advantage of the fact that the premises were empty, as observed by a bailiff, to repossess them. It was not planned to carry out this operation, which is not an expulsion strictly speaking. "

In recent days, after occupying land and buildings, baffles and barricades had been installed by zadists in the Normandelière sector, forcing the municipality to close certain lanes to traffic. "These axes have been reopened and the buildings that were occupied have been closed," says one at the town hall. According to the municipality, it was the main point of occupation still existing.

A “festive reoccupation”

For six months, those who call themselves "the guardians of the Dune" had created a ZAD to protest against a marina project in Brétignolles-sur-mer. "As soon as the confinement ends, we call for a festive reoccupation of the ZAD de la Dune," the opponents said in a statement, while the site had since been frozen.

The future port, which is to be set up on agricultural land and a wetland, will require cutting the dune, digging a channel and installing a lifting bridge which will link the two banks. The project is estimated at 43 million euros and will generate the creation of a hundred jobs, according to calculations by the community of communes of the Pays de Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie. It was to be delivered in 2023.
