The covidradius.info site allows precise geolocation of the authorized perimeter for outings near the home. - C. Girardon / 20 Minutes

  • Three Grenoble engineers have developed a coviradius.info site to establish the perimeter of one kilometer authorized near his home.
  • Unlike other maps, this one is not as the crow flies but isochronously distant.

One hour outing per day within a radius of one kilometer. Not always easy to stay in nails during this period of confinement. To help you, three young Grenoble engineers have created a Coviradius.info website which establishes the real perimeter near your home and allows you to carry out authorized outings such as dog walking or a little physical activity without risking take a ticket.

Maxime Girard worked for almost 20 hours, almost non-stop to offer a first version. And as much to add more functionality. "The site allows users to geolocate in real time, who will have previously informed their postal addresses," he explains. If they exceed the authorized perimeter, the phone starts to vibrate ”.

And who says perimeter does not necessarily speak of an approximate circle or a distance "as the crow flies" since the site has reliefs, buildings that are on the course, various obstacles.

Countdown

A button also starts a one hour countdown. “Halfway through, it turns orange. 15 minutes before the end of the authorized time, the counter turns red and starts sending small alerts to remind users to turn back and warn them of the time remaining, “continues the young man of 25 years.

"We do not collect or store any data and we do not sell them even less to companies," reassures Maxime Girard, insisting that this approach was launched only "with a view to solidarity". “At the start, it was a technical challenge that I wanted to take up to help my friends. It was for fun. And then the site went viral. Now the main thing is that it can be of service to people, ”he continues.

Since its launch in early April, 326,000 unique users have been identified on the site. The small team is currently working on the development of IOS and Android applications.
