What if confinement were "the chance for everyone to discover their hidden talent?" : that's what Frank is asking on Twitter. France 24 subscribers on social networks shared their advice to keep morale high and testified to their situation through nearly 700 comments.

The art to escape

Staying at home, "it's very difficult but we support it", summarizes Mohamed on Facebook. Internet users are full of ideas to keep busy and, for many, art is a good way to get away. "I spend my time doing comics," says Glodi, a cartoonist living in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Others, many, find that time flies faster in music. Amateurs and professional artists continue to practice their passion despite the confinement and some even share it with their neighbors.

Nazir, who is in Saint-Denis (Reunion), advises to “listen to the voice of Sami Yusuf and his beautiful songs”. Born in Tehran, this Briton of Azeri origin is one of the most popular artists in the Muslim world.

In order not to get depressed, Mahmoud proposes to “get closer to his family and find yourself by doing somewhat unusual activities in normal times”. Some like Genie Godula, a journalist from France 24, and her children, set themselves family challenges. They participate in the #gettymuseumchallenge initiated by the Getty Museum, located in Los Angeles. The goal: recreate a work of art at home with objects and people nearby, with family or between roommates.

Multiply activities

The important thing is to "make plans and stay busy," according to Brent. Some focus on one activity, such as video game enthusiasts. "We gamers have always been in containment," quipped Badje on Facebook. But most Internet users are increasing their hobbies, not forgetting their well-being. "I participated in an online yoga class. My very first," said Judith on Twitter. To stay in shape, Javed, who follows France 24 in English, advises to "take vitamin C, eat oranges, lemons and others".

Eating well is a very common concern on social networks. "I am part of a Facebook cooking group, with French recipes but also from around the world. This allows us to try new dishes and exchange recipes," explains Sheila, who lives in France.

The great classics of containment are still movies, books, podcasts and series. Also, the Culture department of France 24 is a mine of ideas. Sonia Patricelli notably advises the series "Validé" on Canal +, by the director of Kairas and "Taxi 5", Franck Gastambide.

However, not everyone has the same resources. "I am in Congo Kinshasa without electricity, water or distraction, like the others but the game of Scrabble fills me with joy at the moment," says Glody. Sometimes a traditional board game is precious, provided it is not confined alone.

Keep the smile

"There are many things to do, such as watching television, meditating, praying, reading novels and others [...] With all that, it is difficult to feel in confinement," says Jérémie. For Hanna, Franco-Mauritian, being bored is not an option either. She shares a typical day on Instagram, from which here is an excerpt: "Occupy a family, breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner, board games or other games, juggle between home school and telework, info, info and re-info ".

Many subscribers of France 24 follow the news very closely, the audiences of our site testify to it. Dev, from Bombay, prefers "to follow positive information only and watch lots of funny videos". Keeping your spirits up is sometimes simple, like smiling. "When we smile, we produce endorphins, which causes a feeling of happiness and happiness is communicative," recalls Nama, who writes to us on Twitter from Senegal. And if anxiety is on the rise, numerous videoconferencing applications exist to interact with loved ones and to stick together.
