Producer Harvey Weinstein in Manhattan Court - Alcir N. da Silva / Polaris / Starface

Harvey Weinstein's former assistant has things to say. Rowena Chiu, who worked for the former boss of Miramax in the 1990s, was among those interviewed in a new documentary about the deposed producer, Harvey Weinstein: ID Breaking Now . In an interview for the New York Post , she first recalls when she learned that her former employer had been sentenced to 23 years in prison.

"I was in tears (...) The victims who testified really represented all those who did not have the opportunity to come and speak," she explained.

Rebuild

Rowena Chiu, like many women who have been in contact with Harvey Weinstein, has also been the victim of the producer's actions. In 1998, when she was only 24 years old and she started in the cinema world, the producer would have tried to rape her during the Venice film festival. She explains that she managed to escape with difficulty. When she decided to speak, Miramax officials hired lawyers to silence her. Result: she had no choice but to sign a non-disclosure agreement, in exchange for $ 426,000, shared among several of her victims.

After more than 20 years in silence, and two suicide attempts, Rowena Chiu ended up rebuilding herself, starting a family. She hopes her testimony will help get things done. "My wish is that the world will resume after the coronavirus and that the movement (launched by #MeToo) continues," she concluded.

Harvey Weinstein: ID Breaking Now will air this Sunday on the American chain Investigation Discovery.
