“I would like to reaffirm the fact that obviously there is no question of mask wars between local authorities and the state. We must do everything to work hand in hand, "declared Christophe Castaner, this Wednesday in the Senate.

He answered a question from the senator (PS) of Saône-et-Loire, Jérôme Durain, who mentioned "several cases [of] requisitions" of masks and more particularly a "requisition by the army", according to him, in the Grand-Est region. A Sunday delivery of several million masks from China to Basel-Mulhouse airport created controversy. The Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region, which was to receive equipment, had accused the State of having "requisitioned" all of the masks.

"The orders were not there"

“In the particular case that you mention, there was no requisition either by the army or by anyone. There have been orders, legitimate, strong orders, carried by local communities and by the State, and in particular by the ARS of the Grand-Est region, ”replied the Minister of the Interior.

ARS Grand-Est "expected six million masks from this importer, but deliveries were not as expected as they were originally planned," according to Christophe Castaner.

Provide priority "caregivers of the Grand-Est"

“There was an initial delivery of two million masks for the ARS (…) The importer was to deliver four million masks on Sunday in a specially chartered plane to the ARS Grand-Est. But the importer had also taken orders from two local authorities: the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region and the Bouches-du-Rhône department, ”he continued.

"At the time of delivery, there were only 3.4 million masks available and which were given as a priority for nursing staff in the Grand-Est," explained Christophe Castaner. "Each and everyone knows that it is not a question of competition when it comes to providing priority healthcare workers in the Grand-Est," added the Minister.
