The Academy of Medicine recommended Tuesday a deconfinement by region. "It is the easiest to implement with the means and possibilities that we have, with the prefectures and the regional health agencies", explains the epidemiologist Yves Buisson, member of the Academy interviewed on Tuesday evening on Europe 1.

INTERVIEW

Are we headed for deconfinement by region? The Academy of Physicians made a recommendation to this effect on Tuesday, a possibility already mentioned last week by Prime Minister Edouard Philippe. "It is the easiest to implement with the means and possibilities that we have, with the prefectures and the Regional Health Agencies (ARS), which will have a major role to play" estimates the epidemiologist Yves Buisson, member of the Academy of Medicine, Tuesday evening on Europe 1.

"France does not know a homogeneous situation of the epidemic. Certain regions were much more precociously and hard hit, this justifies a regional deconfinement which we support at the Academy of Medicine."

Deconfinement by age group, "very complex to imagine"

Yves Buisson, however, was much more measured on deconfinement by age group, another possibility raised by the Prime Minister. "In theory, deconfinement by age group is interesting, especially since we know that the elderly are more at risk. In practice, it is very complex to imagine. One can imagine that in many homes will cohabit confined and confused, it's complicated ", judges the epidemiologist.

But one thing is certain, according to him: "We will deconfinate when we consider that the epidemiological indicators will be back to their basic level. It is difficult to predict, we hope for something quick. Maybe we will also be helped by nature, and that the virus will not withstand summer heat, but we are not sure. "
