The city of Béziers made an astonishing announcement, this Tuesday morning, on social networks: the town has decided to withdraw its public benches, in an attempt to promote the confinement imposed, due to the epidemic of Covid-19.

"Since there was a relaxation in the respect of confinement, the city decided to proceed to the removal of the public benches", notes the town hall, which accompanies its announcement of municipal agents at work, unbolting benches .

Nearly a hundred benches removed

Solicited by 20 Minutes , the municipality indicates however that all the public benches will not be removed. Only the benches of the squares on which the town hall noted that certain inhabitants took advantage of the sun these last days, and did not respect the measures of confinement, were removed. By early afternoon, 97 benches had been removed by municipal officials. They will be put back in place at the end of the containment.

In Béziers, the municipal police, which has carried out 11,200 checks since the start of confinement, has drawn up 1,568 reports for non-compliance with the measures put in place.
