Yesterday, the Emirati and Arab cultural scene lost the Emirati historian Omran bin Salem bin Abdullah Al Owais, who died at the age of 88.

The late deceased was born in Sharjah in 1932, and he grew up in a family that combined work in commerce and a passion for science, culture and literature. Imran Al Owais was particularly interested in books of history, news and genealogy until he became an argument and reference, especially in relation to the Emirates and the Gulf region. His studies in India and his learning of the English language helped him to read and read historical Arabic and foreign sources, and the reports of agents, delegates, Englishmen and travelers.

Also, Al Owais was one of the founders of the Dubai Culture and Science Symposium, and a member of its board of directors from 1987 to 2003, and he headed the Library, Printing and Publishing Committee that oversees the library’s supply and the symposium’s publications and holdings of exchange and gift books, and was also chosen as a member of the Sultan Bin Ali Foundation’s Board of Trustees.
