Angry citizens have destroyed a newly established Coronavirus treatment center in Abidjan, the economic capital of Ivory Coast (Cote d'Ivoire), saying it will contaminate the neighborhood.
Residents burned and looted tents and structures in a makeshift treatment center set up in the Yopogon suburb and this morning, according to witnesses and a correspondent for the German News Agency (dpa) at the site. The police tried to disperse the crowd with tear gas, but were unable to deter angry protesters.
The protesters chanted "We do not want", saying that they do not wish the presence of the virus patients in their neighborhood for fear of its spread. Côte d'Ivoire confirmed 261 cases of corona, and three deaths.
