(Fighting against New Coronary Pneumonia) The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government is competing to build a quarantine unit by about 2600 units in the next few months

China News Agency, Hong Kong, April 5 (Reporter Zhuo Long) The Chief Secretary for Administration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Zhang Jianzong said on the 5th that the quarantine center is one of the important lines of defense for epidemic prevention. At present, the utilization rate of the four quarantine centers of the SAR Government has exceeded 40%, and the government is striving to build quarantine units every second. It will increase about 2600 units in the next few months.

On the same day, Zhang Jianzong published an article in his blog that the SAR government currently has four quarantine centers, namely Junyang Village, Lei Yue Mun Park and Resort, Cuiya Mountain House of Rao Zongyi Cultural Center and Juvenile Police Permanent Activity Center and Youth Training Camp. (Shaoxing Center), providing a total of about 1,740 units, more than 40% of the units are in use.

Zhang Jianzong said that with the rapid development of the epidemic situation, the demand for quarantine facilities has greatly increased, and the SAR government is striving to increase the number of quarantine units through renovation and addition projects. Since the middle of March this year, it is actively preparing to add more quarantine units in Blocks 3 and 4 of Junyang Village. The target is to increase about 1,660 units within this month.

He also said that the SAR Government will continue to build at least about 1,000 units in Lei Yue Mun Parks and Resorts, Sai Kung Outdoor Recreation Center, Shaoxun Center and Penny's Bay Government Land on Lantau Island by assembling synthetic construction methods. It will be completed and put into use in stages by July.

In an interview with the China News Agency, Lin Zhengcai, a member of the Executive Council of the Hong Kong SAR Government and a pediatrician and community medical doctor, believed that the newly added quarantine units in the next few months can alleviate the shortage of quarantine facilities in the short term. However, the development of the epidemic situation is unpredictable, and the government must continue to build quarantine units in case of unexpected needs.

Lin Zhengcai said that the SAR Government had discussed the conversion of large-scale facilities such as stadiums and exhibition venues into quarantine centers. I believe Hong Kong still has room to build quarantine facilities.

At present, the people admitted to the quarantine center are mainly close contacts of the diagnosed patients. Lin Zhengcai said that relevant parties are actively studying the transfer of confirmed patients who are close to rehabilitation to the quarantine center to free up negative pressure isolation wards for newly diagnosed patients.
