The front page of the Ile-de-France newspaper shows Sunday the portraits of four personalities and experts, all male, to tell the "world after" the coronavirus crisis. "This is a blunder," said the editorial director of the media on Twitter.

The daily Le Parisien apologized on Sunday for its front page dedicated to personalities who "tell the world after", and which put forward exclusively men, which earned the newspaper numerous accusations of sexism.

Four male figures

The Ile-de-France newspaper had put on its front page this Sunday the portraits of four personalities and experts, all male (climatologist Jean Jouzel, European Commissioner Thierry Breton, political scientist Yascha Mounk and geneticist Axel Kahn).

The absence of one or more women to illustrate this edition of the Parisien, many people reacted on social networks, accusing the newspaper a form of sexism but also a lack of diversity in the origins and status socio-professional four experts.

"This is a blunder"

"Many of you this morning criticized and relayed the front page of our newspaper where 'the next world' was exclusively drawn by men. You are right. This is a blunder that does nothing to illustrate the editorial line of the Parisian, "replied Stéphane Albouy, the newspaper's editorial director, on Twitter. "This error is a call to order and vigilance for us. It will remain as one of the stones of the 'next world' that we want to continue to build with you," he said.

For its part, the collective of women journalists from Le Parisien, considered that this misstep was "a real slap" and "an unfortunate step backwards" for all those who are fighting for parity and better visibility of women experts in media.
