A bottle of hydroalcoholic solution in front of the factory ship where it was manufactured - OFW Ships

  • In Sète, aboard the “ODeep One”, 39 sailors and chemists manufacture bottles of hydroalcoholic solution, a commodity hit by the shortage in France.
  • So far, in this imposing factory ship, seawater has been bottled.
  • The company says it can make a million bottles a week.

"I am not requisitioned, but I consider myself as such! As long as the country needs our production capacity, we will be there. In Sète, Régis Revilliod has embarked on a frantic race for the production of hydroalcoholic solutions.

The captain of the ODeep One, an imposing ferry transformed into a "factory ship" and moored at the port of the singular Island, has so far bottled sea water, drawn from 300 meters deep. A drink "rich in 78 minerals", the owner of which constantly reminds the benefits for the body. But while the Covid-19 epidemic raged, Régis Revilliod put his floating factory at the service of the nation.

"Rescuing humanity is in the DNA of sailors"

"Seawater will wait," he says at 20 Minutes. Since April 1, aboard the ODeep One , 39 sailors and chemists, confined on board, have produced tons and tons of hydroalcoholic solutions, to help fight the shortage. "Rescuing humanity, as we do at sea, is in the DNA of sailors," says Régis Revilliod. While we heard about a lack of hydroalcoholic solutions in France, my son Carl, our fleet manager, pointed out to me that we had three million preforms on board [the plastic tubes which become, once blown, bottles] on board. We couldn't stay idle! "

The manufacture of hydroalcoholic solutions within the factory ship ODeep One - OFW Ships

After carrying out a meticulous risk analysis “to switch from water to alcohol”, the captain adapted his tool in a few days to the manufacture of hydroalcoholic solutions. With an immense striking force: the ODeep One manufactures every second seven bottles of 600 ml of hydroalcoholic solution, whose recipe has been validated by a pharmacist in Sète. A million a week in the coming days, hopes the captain. By reusing the bottles, which until now were intended to accommodate the processed seawater, on which it will be necessary to screw "any pump". "You screw it up, and it works, lucky, right?" "Smiles Régis Revilliod.

These precious bottles will be primarily intended for nursing staff, firefighters, law enforcement or the protection of employees in the private sector, especially in mass distribution. "It comes in, it comes out, day and night, we are just in time," notes Régis Revilliod. And "it is not a question of money," adds the captain of ODeep One , who recalls that prices are regulated. A welcome initiative, validated by the state services, we learn from the prefecture.
