With the coronavirus pandemic spreading in California, most markets in Los Angeles remained open for the past week. But as Katherine Schwarzenegger pointed out in a tweet, the population there often remains very compact, as was the case at the Brentwood market.

"The Brentwood farmers market is still open, and that seems to be a big problem in terms of gathering," she wrote. A message to which many people responded, including Eric Garcetti, the mayor of the city, who then decided to close the markets temporarily.

The farmers markets in Brentwood still being open seems like a huge issue when it comes to social gatherings 🙏 https://t.co/j7lMGtdVlf

A worrying situation

According to CBS Los Angeles, Eric Garcetti will authorize the reopening of the markets provided that the organizers find a way to guarantee the safety of the sellers as well as the buyers.

The United States has become the new epicenter of the coronavirus epidemic, having surpassed the 3,000 dead mark at the start of the week. If Los Angeles seems for the moment less affected than New York where the virus is wreaking havoc, the city of angels remains a hotbed of people at risk.
