  • A nurse anesthetist from the Montpellier CHU had to move, pushed to leave by her owners who lived above her accommodation.
  • She had decided to live in her daughter's apartment so as not to endanger her loved ones. And to put his sick mother in safety in her home. The owner would have made them live hell, pushing her to move. Her mother, who suffers from lung problems, had to return to a retirement home.
  • The Minister of Housing denounced an abject act, while the public prosecutor of Montpellier opened a preliminary investigation.

A nurse was forced to leave her accommodation in Montpellier because the owner of the accommodation she rented in Montarnaud, a small town on the outskirts of Montpellier, was afraid of catching the coronavirus. She lived on the ground floor of a villa. The owner, a retiree, lived upstairs.

Mélina, a nurse anesthetist at the University Hospital of Montpellier, had however taken all the precautions not to contaminate her relatives and family. "My daughter has a small apartment of 25 square meters in Montpellier, near the hospital, where she lives with her three-year-old daughter," explained on BFMTV the one who takes care of the suffering of patients affected by the coronavirus at CHU. “At the start of confinement, I asked my daughter, my granddaughter and my mother to come and live in Montarnaud with my partner and I made the decision to live in my daughter's apartment. I informed the owner, who quickly told me that these people had to get out, that they were going to bring him the virus. ”

His suffering mother forced to return to retirement home

Mélina's mother suffers from lung problems. By confining her to Montarnaud, with her family, she thought she could protect her. She finally had to put her in a retirement home. The nurse explains that the owners turned off the heating and hot water to force them to leave and woke them up very early, making as much noise as possible. "My daughter and my mother cried every day, it was no longer possible."

😱 Odious! 🤬 But what kind of human are you to dare to chase the family of a nurse from @CHU_Montpellier who saves lives every night?!? # Mélina, we are here to meet the needs of you and your family. @olivierveran @CCastaner @EPhilippePM @ Prefet34 https://t.co/4FJM7YVMsr

The Montpellier Gazette which revealed the case, explains having contacted the owner. She replied that “these people did not have to come to our place (…) there was this grandmother who was in an institution for the elderly. It is well known that these establishments are places at risk. We didn't want that at home ”.

"We don't care if you die as long as it's not with us"

Mélina explains that the owner threw in her face this painful sentence for the one who devotes herself to saving lives: “We don't care that you catch the virus and that you die with it. As long as you don't die with us. If she agreed to testify, "it's so it doesn't happen again." I do not understand that we stigmatize caregivers so much. The worst part is that at the start of confinement, they were being run so that they did not leave their homes. ”

The affair caused very strong reactions on the social networks, in particular of the LREM deputy Coralie Dubost: “Odious! But what kind of human are you to dare to chase the family of a nurse from the Montpellier CHU who saves lives every night? " The Minister of Housing, Julien Denormandie, denounced “an abject act. It shows the darkest part of the crisis in people. ”

Preliminary investigation by the public prosecutor

The prosecutor of the Republic of Montpellier announced for his part the opening of "a preliminary investigation in order to establish whether the conditions under which this person was brought to leave his home were likely to receive one or more criminal qualifications". The nurse "was also put in contact with the association France Victims 34".
