On the night of November 12 to 13, 2019, the Venetians found their city submerged by the waters.

Publicity

Seasonal tides, combined with climate change, and a storm that hit the city caused the water to rise to 1.87 meters on the iconic Saint Mark's Square, something never seen since 1966. Two people died on the Isle of Pellestrina, south of the lagoon, and many homes were flooded and businesses destroyed. This exceptional episode of "acqua alta" (high tide) reminded the Venetians how vulnerable their city was. Between solutions to save Venice, anger or resignation of the inhabitants, the fate of one of the most beautiful cities in the world has never seemed so threatened.
