There are countless goodwill who began to manufacture protective masks or hydroalcoholic solution to try to stem the epidemic of coronavirus. Despite this and containment measures, the number of patients with Covid-19 continues to increase as does the number of deaths in the North.

On Wednesday's count, the Lille hospital center welcomed nearly 190 Covid + patients, including nearly 90 in intensive care. In order not to be saturated, the Calmette hospital in Lille has been transformed into Covid-19 hospital. But still it is necessary to equip the rooms.

The crowdfunding solution

In the Calmette hospital, inside the Lille CHU, 140 beds are now entirely dedicated to welcoming people infected with the coronavirus. An extended capacity but which does not yet have all the necessary equipment. Caregivers have listed the equipment they urgently need and the amount of the invoice is salty: 181,000 euros.

In particular, 20 tensio-saturometers are missing, devices which are used to measure the oxygenation rate in the blood of patients. Total price: 26,000 euros. There is also a shortage of 10 resuscitation respirators, a tool that provides artificial ventilation in the event of respiratory failure. Total price: 155,000 euros.

In order to find the funds quickly, the CHU, the European Metropolis of Lille (MEL) and the city of Lille launched two crowdfunding campaigns on two online platforms, KissKissBankBank and MyMoneyHelp. In solidarity with the initiative, these platforms have also decided not to take any commission, apart from the 3% technical costs.

Donors can also deduct up to 66% of their donation from taxable income. For example, a donation of 15 euros amounts to 5.10 euros after tax deduction. Barely the price of a pint of beer.
