Their mission will last four to ten days, and begins with an unusual journey: it is in the ultra comfort of a coach loaned by the Girondins football club of Bordeaux that 17 caregivers from New Aquitaine were to meet their colleagues from Mulhouse on Thursday. , in the Grand-Est.

We have "anesthetists and resuscitation doctors, palliative care doctors and the rest of the professionals are represented by nurse anesthetists", detailed doctor Patrick Dehail, medical advisor of ARS Nouvelle-Aquitaine, while the coach left the center of Haillan, the seat of the Girondins.

"See, to prepare"

"I'm not afraid," says Dr. Patrick Bodiou, anesthesiologist-resuscitator in a private hospital in the Arcachon basin. "I've been in restricted activity in my establishment for a fortnight, simply because standard activity has been suspended," he says. I will take advantage of the expertise of colleagues from Alsace to prepare myself because very clearly we are not prepared for this kind of scourge ... before the worries happen ”in New Aquitaine, a region so far relatively spared.

Dr. Gaëlle Lenclud, doctor in charge of a palliative care unit at the hospital in Pau, thinks he can support the teams in the East "who are not used to suffering this wave of deaths". "In my team within the palliative care unit we have an 80% death rate, so we are used to (...) these repeated deaths", she says.

New patient transfers planned

New Aquitaine has been supporting the Grand-Est region, one of the most affected by the epidemic, since last week, by sending medical teams, or by receiving in its hospital structures patients who have come by plane or medical trains. Friday, a first medical team must also return from the Grand-Est and new arrivals of patients are expected.
