Multi-pronged response to epidemic relief

In response to the impact of the epidemic on Macau ’s economy and people ’s livelihood, the SAR government has gradually implemented a number of relief measures, including special arrangements for the “2020 Cash Sharing Plan”. From April 1st to June 19th, the SAR Government will distribute 10,000 yuan and 6,000 yuan (Macao dollars, the same below) to the permanent residents and non-permanent residents of the Macao SAR in batches.

According to the cash-sharing plan of the "Fiscal Year 2020 Budget", this year's cash-sharing involved a total of about 680,000 permanent residents and about 48,000 non-permanent residents, with a total budgeted expenditure of about 7.1 billion yuan. Based on the impact of the new crown pneumonia epidemic on Macau ’s economy and people ’s livelihood, the SAR government has decided to make special arrangements for cash sharing this year, and will advance cash sharing payments that usually started in July to April.

In order to strengthen the support for residents and businesses, the SAR Government has introduced exemptions and subsidies for utilities. Relevant measures have been implemented in March. Residents and businesses have gradually reduced their utility bills. Relevant content includes: Residents are exempt from paying 3 months water and electricity bills to residential users. In terms of water bills, residential customers are exempted from the water bills from March to April this year and half of the water bills from May to June. In terms of electricity bills, residential customers are exempted from the electricity bills involved in the billing month from March to May this year.

The SAR government has launched a "company and company subsidy for utilities" for small and medium-sized enterprises, setting a cap on the amount for three months. In terms of water charges, non-residential users are subsidized for the water charges involved in the May-June billing month and half of the water charges involved in the July-August billing month. The maximum subsidy is 3,000 yuan per household per month. In terms of electricity bills, non-residential users are subsidized for the electricity bills involved in the billing month from March to May this year, and the upper limit of electricity bill subsidies is 10,000 yuan per household per month. The relevant measures do not apply to the hydropower contracts of casinos, Samsung or above hotel premises, and special government departments.

The Macao SAR Government Information Bureau recently announced that the SAR Government will set up a special fund of 10 billion yuan for anti-epidemic assistance through the Macao Foundation, which will help Macao residents and businesses who have difficulties in living or operating due to the new crown pneumonia epidemic. Provide assistance and provide stronger and faster financial support for epidemic prevention work. The Macao SAR government has previously adopted a series of measures to reduce taxes and fees, support credit, and encourage consumption, involving nearly 40 billion yuan in funding.
