Private car used for fire brigade activities New system for damage compensation April 2 4:09

In last year's Typhoon No. 19, cases where private cars were used by fire brigade members for their activities were submerged, causing personal damage. The Fire and Disaster Management Agency of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications created a new system for compensating for damages in order to improve the environment for the activities of the fire brigade, and started operation this year.

According to the Fire and Disaster Management Agency of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, firefighting teams from various parts of the country checked their safety during a heavy rain disaster caused by typhoon No. 19 last October, and members of their own cars were sometimes used for activities.

However, a total of 57 reports of this car were submerged in Shizuoka, Nagano, Fukushima, and Miyagi prefectures, of which 75% had to be scrapped.

If you do not have vehicle insurance, the entire amount of damage will be borne by the individual, so the Fire and Disaster Management Agency of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications has created a new system for compensation from this year.

The new system is a system in which the local government signs a contract to borrow a fire brigade member's car and the local government's mutual aid association pays compensation according to the limit.

The compensation will be covered by a "payment" paid by each local government to the Mutual Aid Association. For this year, 50% of that amount will be allocated to the special local allocation tax.

The Fire and Disaster Management Agency of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications says, "I would like to improve the disaster prevention capability and secure more members by improving the activity environment of the fire brigade."
