Pharmacies, supermarkets, bakeries, taxis, funeral directors, tobacco shops ... Every day, the professionals of these services are in contact with the population, and are therefore potentially exposed to contamination by Covid-19.
To meet their demand and reduce risks, the LED lighting manufacturing company Orsteel Light, in Contes (Alpes-Maritimes), converted to the design of portable hygienic devices during the confinement period.
“It is a way for us to respond to a health issue by implementing our know-how. It is also a way of participating in the effort made by manufacturers to work against the rise of the Covid-19, ”explains Adrien Sfecci, CEO of Orsteel Light and president of the Paillons Valley business club.
Block postilions
On the technical level, the hygienic device consists of a plexiglass plate which makes it possible “to create a physical barrier against the postilions between the customers and the person who serves”. “Our system can be assembled and dismantled in around ten seconds and can be easily cleaned. In addition, it is a three-in-one model: it can be used horizontally on a desk, vertically on a counter, or curved for other places, ”explains Adrien Sfecci.
"We are not here to make money"
Beyond the health objective, this production also allows the Maralpine company to avoid recourse to partial unemployment for its nineteen employees. “Concretely, we have a 50% drop in our LED lighting orders for the month of March, and around 70% for April. Either we closed the factory, or we went through this solution to maintain jobs. We must be clear: we are not there to make money. Our goal is to pay wages and only ask for help if we are forced to close, ”says the 35-year-old manager.
