As overseas prepares to face the Covid-19, Annick Girardin responded to criticism on Tuesday, saying there was "no preparation". The Minister of Overseas believes that the means put in place in overseas territories met "the same criteria" as in mainland France.

The overseas territories, which to date have some 666 proven cases, and a dozen deaths in all of the territories, are "a month behind" compared to France on the impact of the epidemic, a she underlined, on Overseas the 1st. "This month in advance we still kept it today," she insisted. "We have a time of anticipation which is greater than that which we have in France," added the minister.

"The mobilization is general"

“There is no preparation, it is not true. The means that have been put in place until today in the overseas territories meet the same criteria, the same organization as in mainland France, whether we are talking about masks, tests, respirators ” , said Annick Girardin.

"The requests expressed by the regional health agencies are being provided little by little, there has been between one delivery and five deliveries of masks since the beginning of February" in each overseas territory, she said. According to her, "mobilization is general" overseas "to prepare for this crisis if we were to be affected as was affected in France".

A price freeze envisaged

The overseas territories are confined like France, with, in addition, restrictions on air links, four or four weeks for arrivals and the upcoming reinforcement of two military helicopter carriers, in the Indian Ocean and the Antilles-Guyana zone. The minister assured that territorial continuity "may go to an air bridge, that is to say military aircraft".

Finally, she announced that she had contacted the scientific council to study the possibility of "implementing doctrines different from those of France" in terms of tests or isolation. "The scientific council by April 6 should give us a specific doctrine. We still have time to do it and do it well. ”
