As the coronavirus epidemic continues to progress in France, concern is growing among residents of Ehpad and their families. Staff take all possible precautions, but several establishments are already deploring deaths among the residents.

Faced with the epidemic, Marion remains lucid. Her great-grandmother, almost a hundred years old, lives in a nursing home in the Val de Marne, and is among those at risk from coronavirus. "She is in good health, but if a case comes in, we know that a good part of the Ehpad will pass through it."

Affected establishments multiply

In retirement homes, the concern is palpable. 10 people died in an establishment in Loir et Cher where a resident and five agents had been diagnosed with coronavirus, we learned on Friday. At the start of the week, 20 people died in a nursing home in the Vosges, "possibly linked" to the Covid-19 epidemic.

Of course, the staff redoubles their efforts to barrier the virus. Marie works in an establishment near Pau which is not yet affected by the epidemic, but she already sees the wave of coronavirus arriving. "The Paris region, the Oise, Mulhouse ... Little by little, the virus has grown and spread. We sense that we will also have cases."

Maintain social ties as best as possible

Faced with the concern of residents and families, the staff somehow try to maintain social ties through video calls. A technique that does not work very well for the most disoriented residents. "The contact with my mother was mainly physical. That is why it is difficult for us today," says Catherine. She fears more "her moral suffering" than a "possible virus" ...
