The Russian Federal Medical and Biological Agency announced that it has developed a drug to treat the disease caused by the emerging corona virus (Covid 19), on the basis of the anti-malarial drug, mefloquine.

In a statement carried by Russian websites in Arabic, the agency confirmed that the agency's productive scientific center, "Zashita", had "succeeded in developing a plan to treat coronavirus infection on the basis of the anti-malarial drug (mefloquine), benefiting from the Chinese and French experiences."

The agency pointed out that the new drug "selectively prevents high-cellular morbidity caused by the Coronavirus, and prevents its reproduction, while the immunosuppressive effect of mefloquine inhibits the activation of the inflammatory response caused by the virus."

For its part, the Corona Virus Infection Prevention Room in Russia reported that four people infected with "Covid 19" have recovered and have been discharged from hospitals during the last 24 years, bringing the number of people recovering in Russia to 49. Corona virus cases, which were registered in Russia as of Saturday, 1264 cases.
