Shopping or fast food orders? No: in the midst of a coronavirus epidemic, the town hall of Nice has set up since Friday a "drive" system ... to distribute masks and hydroalcoholic gel to all health professionals. According to the deputy director general of the city's services, interviewed by Europe 1, the whole operation saves precious time, by preventing caregivers from getting out of their car.

"There are more than 50,000 FFP2 and surgical masks to be distributed," says Bastien Nespoulous. "There are continuous orders which are in progress to gradually equip all of these professionals", nurses, doctors or pharmacists, who are sometimes without sufficient equipment. A million masks are expected to arrive from China this weekend, according to the government.

Verifications on a listing

"In a very practical way, vehicles enter the Palais des Expositions in Nice and health professionals present their professional card, as well as their identity document," explains the assistant to the director general of services. "We check on the basis of a listing and then we endow them with these kits which therefore include masks and hydroalcoholic gel."

The distribution is done "through the window of their vehicle": "It allows to guarantee a certain distance between the teams and the health professionals who are staffed", ensures Bastien Nespoulous. "I believe that between the moment when his identity is verified and the departure of the health professional, it should take barely 30 seconds."
