The French Association for Standardization put on line Friday a reference indicating how to make its own masks of protection against the coronavirus. Aimed at businesses and individuals, the document can be downloaded for free.

INTERVIEW

This is a very useful guide that has just been posted on its website by AFNOR, the French Association for Standardization. While the coronavirus epidemic continues to spread across the country, and the controversy continues to grow around the shortage of masks, the group offers a free download guide for manufacturers and individuals wishing to manufacture new masks. Guest Friday of La France bouge, on Europe 1, Olivier Peyrat, the group's managing director, returned to this initiative.

Put online Friday, the guide is "a repository to facilitate and accelerate mass production or craft", says AFNOR on its site, especially for manufacturers, but also individuals. These barrier masks, specifies Olivier Peyrat, "are intended to supplement the barrier gestures and the distance measures", and "to equip all the professions which are not health personnel, but which can be in contact with the public, like distribution, postal workers, public services, etc. ". This document will therefore give "means, plans, patterns" to companies interested in the manufacture of masks. However, assures Olivier Peyrat, "all manufacturers are in start-up blocks".

"Colossal" and fast work "

According to the boss of AFNOR, the rapid online publication of this reference document results from "colossal work". "We have started work with 150 experts from different backgrounds," he said at the microphone of Raphaëlle Duchemin. Unprecedented speed, motivated by the urgency of the situation. "We preferred to have something readily available," says Olivier Peyrat, believing that the fight against the coronavirus is "a national cause". "It usually takes a year and a half to make a standard, and then it took 7 days."
