A new scientific committee at the Elysée. Emmanuel Macron is due to receive this Tuesday at 5 p.m. at the Elysée Palace the Research Analysis and Expertise Committee (Care), which brings together 12 researchers and doctors to advise the government, in support of the Scientific Council.

Installed in the presence of Prime Minister Edouard Philippe, Minister of Health Olivier Véran and Minister of Research Frédérique Vidal, the Care will be chaired by Françoise Barré-Sinoussi, virologist at the Pasteur-Inserm Institute, Nobel Prize 2008 for discovery of the AIDS virus.

Science, the best weapon against the virus

The Care will have the capacity to rule within 48 hours on certain questions, by issuing recommendations, learned 20 Minutes from the Elysée. It will report its work to the Ministers of Health and Research. It will also be responsible for managing the post-crisis, where the scientific council manages the crisis.

Care comes to reinforce the structures put in place to help the executive to manage the crisis, in particular the scientific council, composed of ten experts, which met Tuesday morning at the Elysée Palace.

Treatments, studies and reflections

Its objective will be to "advise the government on the programs and doctrine relating to treatments, tests and backtracking practices that identify people in contact with those infected with the Covid-19 virus" , according to the Elysée Palace.

The committee "will in particular monitor therapeutic studies authorized in France and trials undertaken on treatments abroad". It "will accompany the authorities' reflection on the doctrine and the capacity to carry out tests as well as on the advisability of implementing a digital strategy for identifying people who have been in contact with infected people", continues the presidency .

The Covid-19 has killed 860 people in France since the start of the epidemic, including five doctors, and 2,082 patients were on Monday evening in intensive care, according to a latest report. In an interview with Le Monde , Françoise Barré-Sinoussi insists on the imperative of "scientific rigor", particularly with regard to the use of hydroxychloroquine, "whose effectiveness has not been rigorously proven" , according to her.

Twelve experienced researchers

“I am awaiting the results of the Discovery trial, designed as part of the“ Reacting ”consortium, which has just started and which will involve 3,200 people, including 800 in France (…) The first reliable analyzes should be known in about fifteen days. This test is done in a state of the art. Let's be patient, ”she says.

In addition to Françoise Barré-Sinoussi, the Care will be composed of Jean-Philippe Spano (oncologist), Yazdan Yazdanpanah (infectiologist-epidemiologist), Franck Molina (researcher at CNRS), Dominique Valeyre (professor of pulmonology), Bertrand Thirion (researcher at Inria), Sylviane Muller (researcher at CNRS), Laetitia Atlani-Duault (researcher at IRD and anthropologist), Marie-Paule Kieny (researcher at Inserm, infectiologist), Muriel Vayssier (Director of the Animal Health Department of Inra), Marc Lecuit (professor of infectious diseases) and Christophe Junot (head of the drugs and technologies for health department at CEA). Some specialists are already members of the Scientific Committee.
