Fernando Simón, director of the Coordination Center for Health Alerts and Emergencies of the Ministry of Health, led the appearance this morning after the meeting of the Technical Management Committee for Coronavirus in Moncloa. In this he has referred to the existence of 5,400 infected health professionals, 2,000 more in two days, since on Sunday the same Simon referred to 3,476.

Among the causes that Simón has attributed to this contagion health entities are several: " the first two or three nosocomial outbreaks that most affected health personnel ", along with the difficulty of access to personal protective equipment (PPE), since " Market access problems are occurring globally, there is no easy global availability and we are on the way to solving it. " He pointed out that some professionals have also been able to become infected in the community.

Simón has not referred to the controversy that his statements yesterday have caused in the pharmaceutical community , by dismissing the need for them to protect themselves and sustain that they suffer risks inherent to the development of their profession, as do supermarket cashiers.

Regarding global figures, there are 39,673 positive cases, of which 6,582 are new cases reported in the last 24 hours , which represents an increase of 20%, and are mainly focused on Catalonia and Madrid . However, Simón has clarified that the case notifications are delayed between 7 and 10 days from the date of the patient's infection.

In turn, he highlighted that 3,794 discharges have already taken place, thus maintaining the trend that the number of cured patients exceeds that of the deceased, who are 2,696, apart from 2,636 ICU patients.

Assistance pressure

Even with this slowdown in the growth of cases, Simón has stressed that the healthcare pressure in hospitals, uneven by centers according to number of affected, will continue beyond the time the infection is controlled , since hospitalizations and those admitted to the ICU it takes several days to produce.

José Ángel González, chief commissioner of the Ministry of the Interior, has had some clear words of thanks to health professionals: "The health world is the heart. Police officers are only part of their armor to help them win this battle. Police highly value the titanic effort of healthcare professionals. " Then, he reported that there have been cases of patients who have left the hospital without having been discharged from hospital, patients whom the police are locating .

Corpses in residences

Another issue discussed at the press conference has been the discovery of bodies in residences. In this regard, Miguel Ángel Villarroya, chief of the Defense General Staff, has indicated that he has carried out disinfection work in numerous facilities of special critical services ; among them, 92 nursing homes. In this regard, after a question asked, he referred to the fact that the Prosecutor's Office is investigating the discovery of these bodies: " The Armed Forces operate in a residence to disinfect. The residence system in Spain works very well, but we cannot enter replace it. I do not know the reasons for these cases but I do confirm that deceased people have been found, "he said.

Vilarroya has also referred to other functions that they are undertaking, such as the transfer of moderate patients between hospitals and medicalized hotels in Madrid, the setting up of modular stores for triage of patients at the Ramón y Cajal Hospital, support in the transfer of medical equipment and in assembly of the IFEMA macro hospital, with 5,000 beds .
