On October 17, 2019, Barbara Cassin was received at the Académie française where she was elected on May 3, 2018.

Philologist, Hellenist and philosopher, specialist in Greek philosophers and the rhetoric of modernity, the new immortal is also director of research at the CNRS and translator. We notably owe him the direction of the European Vocabulary of Philosophies - Dictionary of the Untranslatable in 2004, and more recently Praise of the translation. Complicating the universal or When to say is really doing: Homer, Gorgias and the rainbow people .

Barbara Cassin is the ninth academician woman. Her reception speech marked her commitment to multilingualism by taking up Derrida's motto, " More than one language " which she had engraved on her academic sword!
