With a toothpick adorning his toothless Irish mouth, Dan Tobin, a 90-year-old everlasting beer drinker , listens patiently and slyly to Catholic extreme unction on his deathbed surrounded by all his own. Outside, Sean Thornton has been involved with the gangs with Willy Danaher, a big bully who writes down anyone who contradicts him in a notebook. Hearing the hubbub of the fight coming from outside, Tobin spits out the toothpick and jumps like a grasshopper from his bed.
