The third military flight in a week
It is the third time in a week that the armed forces have deployed the airborne medical evacuation device, dubbed Morpheus, for the benefit of patients suffering from coronavirus. The operation aims to unclog the hospital in Mulhouse, whose resuscitation services are saturated. On Wednesday and Saturday, twelve patients hospitalized in Alsace had already been transferred by military flight to regions with available beds.
A veritable mobile hospital, with medical equipment directly integrated into the hold of an Air Force refueling plane, this device's primary purpose is to repatriate French soldiers seriously injured in external operations. With the coronavirus crisis, it is the first time that it is used on the national territory.
