The confinement period can be difficult for those who are dependent, particularly on tobacco and alcohol. Addictologist Michel Reynaud gave his advice on Monday afternoon in the program Sans rendez-vous on Europe 1.

INTERVIEW

During confinement, the temptation to drink a glass of wine or light a cigarette is strong. For people addicted, whether to alcohol, tobacco or drugs, this period presents real dangers. "This situation of confinement is a stressful situation. The most solid socially, professionally and family will get by but the most vulnerable will have difficulty. The temptation of the addicts is therefore to take a cigarette, or a drink for example", warns Addictologist Michel Reynaud, who gave some advice to cure, or to limit his addiction of the month on the program Sans rendez-vous, Monday on Europe 1.

Do not share a cigarette or a joint

Michel Reynaud, who is also president of the Action Addiction Fund, first wished to deplore the lack of protection given to carers caring for addicted people. "The caregivers of the addicts were left to their own devices, even worse than in the Ephad. They had no masks or any practical information. But with their goodwill, they nevertheless set up the possibility of protected consultations . Remote consultations have also grown, "noted the addictologist, who advises dependent people not to share a drink or a cigarette.

"A certain number of instructions have been given: do not share a cigarette or a joint with anyone, any more than sniffing equipment," he asks.

Do not normalize alcohol consumption

Since the beginning of confinement, the fashion of "skype aperitifs" has made it possible to keep social ties with friends and relatives. But Michel Reynaud warns: "It is always the same problem, alcohol consumption should not be normalized. What is more worrying is the resumption of pathological consumption in the most fragile. This also induces a risk of 'increase in domestic violence', he worries.

"Sometimes massive festive alcohol consumption, in the evening or in bars, will decrease, so there will be a reduction in risks. On the other hand, for those who drink because they are tense or in pain, the alcohol response will necessarily come ", continues the addictologist.

Find help on social media

Michel Reynaud also advises dependent people to turn to social networks. "We have developed responses with mutual aid forums, we have opened a page on the coronavirus where people can express themselves on their difficulties with alcohol or cannabis," says the president of the Action Addiction Fund.

"What works enormously are Facebook groups like 'I don't smoke anymore' or 'I don't drink anymore'. These groups offer a lot of support, so don't hesitate to consult them. 'Alcoholics Anonymous' and' Anonymous Narcotics' also have social media groups. "
